What is your inner voice saying?

Our inner voice runs so constantly that we mostly do not notice it, like the air we breathe. The inner voice is always asking and answering questions, such as “Is this true?”, “Is this right?”, “Is this good?”, “What’s the problem?”, “What’s in it for me?”, and “What’s in it for them?”

If you take a moment right now and consciously observe your train of thought, a lot of it is about a commentary that you have been having with yourself about what you are reading. You have been hearing your inner voice in action. The way this book has been “occurring” to you has a lot to do with the conversations you and your inner voice are bringing to it. The truth about this inner voice is that it is constantly talking and you cannot turn it off, even when you try (Zaffron & Logan, 2009). This inner voice repeats old thoughts. It rarely converses with you about anything new. Your inner voice almost never provides you new solutions to problems.
