9 So Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord; Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. 10 As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to attack Israel; but the Lord thundered with a mighty voice that day against the Philistines and threw them into confusion; and they were routed before Israel. (1 Samuel 7:9-10 NRSV)
Samuel prayed as he sacrificed. You must do both. 1) You must be in constant communication with the Lord. 2) You must also be willing to back up your talk with your walk. His prayer without the sacrifice would not have been so prevalent. The sacrifice without prayer would not have been an empty shadow. Together, the prayer and the sacrifice teach us how we can expect God to answer those prayers made in faith, in Christ’s name.
